I have always loved and collected broken bits of china - plates, cups, saucers - and scavenged old wall tiles from skips and friends. Three years ago I found a use for this love of the smashed and discarded, when I discovered the beauty and transformative qualities of mosaic.
I now make hand cut mosaics for both indoor and outdoor use incorporating these salvaged and found items; including broken ceramics, slate roof tiles, glass bottles, and wall tiles. I like to combine these 'old' materials with new ones such as stained glass and mirror for their translucent and reflective qualities. The materials take on a new life and energy when re-created into a mosaic.
